WHEELS AND MEANS

This journey is essentially intended as a great road trip to test our perseverance. So, there won’t be any challenges at GPS-coordinates, with GPS only helping us find our way.

Having a four-wheel drive will be important for this trip, as you’ll likely miss out on several stages otherwise. You’ll need to prepare your car thoroughly, particularly focusing on having brakes, suspension and engine cooling in perfect running order.

We’re not specifying the way we’ll be travelling—we can even drive in a group; let’s leave this up to what we feel like once we’re there.

Next evening’s lodgings will be decided at the end of the preceding day. We’re seeking to have a diverse range of lodging option, i.e. plans are up to have nice hotels, mountain shelters and tent pitching. Everyone will take care of accommodations on their own, booking them as we go along. It’s simply impossible to book in advance, so we’ll have to improvise. There are lots of hotels and B+Bs, restaurants, street food stalls along the roads, particularly near the sights, so we’re pretty sure we’ll find a place to stay...

Once the full complement of participants is finalised, there might be some articles you’ll need to bring for the benefit of the entire team. Someone’s going to bring a BBQ, others a table, a freezer, etc. That’s intended to avoid everyone bringing stuff of which even one would be enough, to share the burden and things to do.

Not a single place will be compulsory to reach, whether an off-road stage, a breakaway state, monastery, museum or even a local drinking hole. That will be your decision to make in every case; we’ll be showing you the options, but you decide if you want to come along.

Fortunately, the Caucasus Region is far from expensive, whether in terms of accommodations or meals. Not to mention fuel...

We decided to limit the number of participating vehicles. That’s because we want to avoid a mass of four-wheel drives.
